Two Days before, the star of the show was the Tropical Kingbird. Then I did the Ocean City Count on Thursday. Then I birded my way home on Friday December 29th and stopped at Blackwater NWR.
At the refuge, I was looking for a Cackling Goose and found a Greater White-Fronted Goose instead.
The White Pelicans were present at the Refuge. As many as 32 had been previously reported but I only found 20 birds. I thought the opportunity to photograph the Great Blue Heron was hard to pass up. Then I discovered the Cackling Goose. A fine specimen with a very short stubby bill.
Later I went to Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary in Southern Prince George's County to see the Ross' Goose. I also found a Cackling Goose here but didn't photograph it.
